Designed to evolve. Made to stay.

Originally known as the Paustian Modular Sofa, Paradigm was designed in 1969 by Erik Rasmussen (1930–1984). In 2025, Montana relaunched the iconic modular sofa in a version that honors the original design while maintaining functionality and flexibility.

Choose between four modules – left corner, right corner, straight module, and pouffe – and create anything from a compact sofa to a spacious lounge solution.

Modular in spirit. Sculptural in form.

Debuting in a modern iteration under the name Paradigm, the sofa marks a new chapter in Montana Furniture’s universe of versatile, enduring design. Reintroduced with thoughtful updates for contemporary living, Paradigm remains true to its minimalist roots.

Home is no longer just a place—it’s a fluid landscape for living, working, gathering, and retreating. Paradigm by Montana Furniture introduces a new language of lounge: sculptural, flexible, and intuitively designed to evolve with you.

Originally created in 1969 by Danish designer Erik Rasmussen, Paradigm is a modular sofa system imagined for modern life. Its minimalist form and soft geometry offer both calm and character, while its adaptability allows you to reshape your space with ease.

Reimagined for today without compromising its original spirit, Paradigm embodies Montana Furniture’s enduring values: craftsmanship, flexibility, and timeless design.

Textiles overview

Erik Rasmussen (1930–1984)

Architect Erik Rasmussen (1930–1984) designed the sofa for Paustian in 1969 while working as a graphic designer at the company. Paustian had requested a modular, sculptural, and minimalist piece where form and textile could truly take center stage.

Erik Rasmussen responded with the sofa’s distinctive rounded seat and backrest. Today, his design is celebrated for its sculptural relationship to space, leaving a lasting impact on modern Scandinavian design. His original modular sofa now lives on as Paradigm, a future-proof system that continues his visionary legacy while aligning with Montana Furniture’s commitment to thoughtful, sustainable design.
